To close out the winter term of SASAH's second-year course, students with the leadership of Erica Lawson each worked on a project on a different Black feminist thinker. This culminated in an exhibition titled "Entering the Wake: A Celebration of Black Feminist Thinkers," hosted at Western University.

Their choice of a title, ”Entering the Wake” is a reference to Christina’s Sharpe consideration of the many meanings of “wake” for the history and experience of Black people in America, from the wake of the ships used to carry enslaved Africans to the US, to the wake held after a funeral, in which communities come together to mourn their dead, to the use of the word “wake” to mean become aware, or ‘woke’. The students consider that they are entering the wake in terms of their learning about these experiences in the class.
